Yeah, I was just looking through some documentation on it. It says it uses a “digital wallet”. Maybe people are seeing that and thinking that means it’s blockchain-based? I’m not seeing anything more solid claiming there’s any blockchain involved, though. (I’m not 100% certain there isn’t any blockchain involved, though.)

It’s BS either way. Extra super plus plus BS if it’s blockchain-based. But still BS even if there’s no blockchain involved.

One of the crucial differences between blockchain and Git is that Git is fully subserviant to humans and anything can be undone by humans.

If your blockchain house title is stolen by a hacker, either the courts (rightfully) aren’t going to put any significance on the state of the blockchain and are going to say “yeah, you still own your house” (in which case what was the point of using blockchain in the first place rather than a SQL database or some such where mistakes and problems and fraud can be undone without cryptographically-hard obstacles in the way) or if in this hypothetical the Libertarian dystopia has progressed to cartoonish extremes, you’re just SOL and lost your house, which just isn’t even remotely realistic.

I honestly fully believe that proprietary software is bullshit and all software ought to be Free Software. I’m not saying I don’t use proprietary software, but I don’t trust it. If I run proprietary software, I go out of my way to try to run it in prison. I don’t let my Nintendo Switch connect to the internet except when I have a very specific reason and then I disconnect it immediately after I’m done. When I bought a robot vacuum cleaner, I bought specifically the model that I knew I could hack to not phone home. I bought a phone on which I could run LineageOS without the Google apps. (And, yes, I’m running a proprietary EFI BIOS on my main desktop machine and such. But I do take a lot of steps to limit how much influence proprietary software has on me and my devices.)

Windows, I will always remember it being the best thing for business’s as Microsoft pushes licenses and such business related features.

I’ve run across AI content in non-AI subs before and responded with similar things fully expecting to be downvoted to Earth’s core and was pleasantly surprised at how few downvotes and how many upvotes I got. So I’ve made a habit of calling out AI stuff in non-AI communities when I run across it. (Unless it’s actually strongly related to the purpose of the community it’s posted in.)

This is at least the third time I’ve made such a comment, and the first time I’ve seen a negative net score for more than a few minutes after I posted. Still, it’s pretty evenly split even on this one. Maybe most of the down-voters just don’t want anything negative said about “AI”. (Like cryptobros will deem anything “bearish” to be “FUD”.) Who knows.

And there are places for engaging in mouth-foaming AI bubble hype indulgence on Lemmy. I just don’t want the communities I like inundated with tons of AI PR posts.

It kindof seems like what you’re looking for is Gentoo. Any reason why you’re reticent to go that direction?

Clarification: in what program(s) interfaces are they not sorted the way you want? In the output of an ls command? In the default Mint graphical filebrowser? (I’m not a Mint user, so I’m not familiar with the default Mint filebrowser if there is one.) In QT and/or GTK file open/save dialogs?

I currently use Sway primarily. On my work machine, I have to use Zoom, so I use i3 on X1q which acts/feels virtually identical to Sway. (Or rather, the other way around. Sway was made to be a Wayland compositor drop-in replacement for i3 which has been around for a long time.)

As in, you can type in the password but when you submit it, the login page says it’s the wrong password? Or as in you can’t get the password box to accept foucs? Or as in when it has focus and you press a key, it doesn’t add dots to the box indicating you’ve typed in a character.

The KDE Neon machine I have to use for work does the last of these. But I’ve got two monitors. My workaround is to go log in on the other monitor. And that works, somehow. Weird, and a bit of a pain, but it works for me.

If you meant the first of these, it’s possible you’ve just entered the wrong password enough times that it locked you out for 10-ish minutes.

I think in *nix, shell-configured init systems came first and the non-shell config file init systems are a more recent development. The real question is why the non-shell-configured init systems decided to change it up.

I use Sway exclusively on my personal systems. For work, I have to use Zoom, and you can’t share your screen on Zoom if you’re using Wayland. So I use xorg-server and i3.

Aside from Zoom, the only thing I wish would support Wayland better is ffmpeg. There are janky workarounds to make ffmpeg capture from Wayland, but they’re… well, janky workarounds. If I abolutely have to capture video from my desktop, I switch to xorg-server/i3 long enough to do that then go back to Sway.

I’ll switch to Wayland on my work machine when Zoom supports it. And I guess the ffmpeg thing, while unfortunate, isn’t enough of a deal breaker to keep me from daily-driving Wayland.
