I absolutely hate how dependent we’ve gotten to IPv4. To the point that Amazon is charging almost $4 a month per IP. It used to be free. These assholes are buying IPv4 addresses so fast that they are literally driving up the price.

Is there a resource that you can recommend on learning IPv6 based on my knowledge on IPv4? A lot of resources I’ve seen are way over engineered for my feeble brain.

Like I know what IP addresses are and what port numbers are. I don’t understand the difference between how IPv6 addresses are assigned (both locally and generally speaking) and what makes it different from IPv4.

I know it’s not DHCP.

Omg…I thought I was doing it wrong. I was trying to map ports on my router and it just wouldn’t do it properly.

Networking is not my strong suit so I assumed I was being an idiot and reverted back to IPv4.

I am pretty okay with regex. Enough that I can do what I want.

sed/awk I’ve used on occasion, usually sed to change something in a pipeline.

This right here. I know lemmy is all “LINUX IS FOR EVERYONE!” But it isn’t.

I know this would go against Google’s self interest but they are best poised to make Linux mainstream. Chrome OS can play android games natively. But it’s all close source.

It wouldn’t take much to make the ecosystem for general Linux. I don’t know if the other android-based OSes are working on this but anything we can do to push gaming into Linux would help it to become a better everyday OS

It must have gotten better than the last time I tried to use Ventoy. Maybe 5 years ago? It kept complaining that the USB drive I was using was bad when it worked completely fine with other tools.

Depending on where you’re going even IP addresses are getting to the point that they aren’t helpful. IP addresses are likely to belong to a cloud provider, and unless they are hosting email or a service that requires a reverse record, all you’d get is the cloud provider’s information.

Yup. It booted fine but after a few reboots, bpool somehow got corrupted and refused to boot. It happened repeatedly after several reinstalls.

I love ZFS but support for it on Ubuntu seems haphazard. It works fine for non-root drives.

I’ve tried running it as my root partition and just gave up after it fucked up my bpool dataset too many times.
