  • My problem with Pop OS is that on the two different machines I’ve installed it on it was very slow.

One of them made sense because it was an older mini Lenovo box, but the second machine I installed it on was a 10th gen Intel core i7 laptop with a Nvidia 2060 and 32 gigs of RAM and a decent one terabyte nvme SSD, and there would still be a massive pause with every click, somewhere between half a second and a second before anything would respond, and when updating or launching Firefox or anything it would always spin for a while and then pop up the sign saying this app is taking too long to respond.

Both of the devices were Lenovo devices, maybe there’s some sort of fundamental incompatibility or missing driver or something but I couldn’t cope with the lagginess of the OS.

Fedora worked swimmingly on both of them, for comparison.

  • I have taken the A+ certification on two separate occasions and the first time I walked in with no training and aced it. The second time I walked in with no training and I struggled but I still passed.

The CompTIA certifications do get updated on a roughly 3-year cycle, but even so they’re never going to cover everything and even if you can pass the test it doesn’t actually mean that you are a competent IT person.

My guess is that if you’re going to start a MSP you can do that with Foss and probably have a lot of success as long as you’ve got the sales chops to get the contracts.

Then you can funnel some of your customers money to foss well also increasing awareness and adoption of the better free and open source software programs

Most of the small to mid size companies that I have worked for would choose a larger more established system that costs more even if it offers less over a self-hosted one that they had to pay some sort of fee for.

Is like this weird idea in the business world that if you’re using Foss systems that it must be completely free, and that the reason why you are using it is because you are broke or cheap.

  • I bought a Samsung mono laser and printed approximately 400 pages on it before the fusor broke and would cost more than the entire printer did to replace.

I was past the 6-month warranty as well so I chucked it and bought a $10 Brother MFC-7860dw monoprinter from the thrift store that printed in the store.

It turned out that it would jam like the grateful Dead if it printed more than one page though.

Apparently that is a common issue with them and inside of the printer there is a small cork pad that gets twisted down and hits every time it picks up a new sheet of paper and the cork had gotten sticky somehow.

The fix for this incredibly complicated and delicate procedure is to open one side of the printer and take a piece of Scotch tape and cover over that tiny cork pad.

I did that 7 years ago and it still prints perfectly today.

  • To a certain point I agree with you, mild psychedelics have been used for millennia to help people uncover their own issues and work through them.

The other side of that is that it is not a cure-all, and most of the people that habitually use psychedelics tend to check out from reality.

So, even if they can be used medicinally and be helpful, they are a double-edged sword in that just because you’ve seen through some of your own assumptions doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve pierced the veil of the greater illusion of Maya.

  • The other thing is it’s not exactly like the matrix is made to be broken. People have been talking about the concept of Maya, that the world as presented to us is nothing but an illusion meant to keep us trapped, for thousands of years.

They claim that the enlightened people the bodhisattvas the jesus’s and Muhammad’s have broken through the illusion and stayed back to help guide us along the way.

Which is all well and good but that does not mean that breaking the illusion is easy. It doesn’t even mean necessarily that it is possible because first you have to prove that an illusion exists and then you have to prove that there is a way to break it, and most people, I believe, go mad along the way.

I said all of that to say, if you find a way to break out of the matrix please for the love of God show me the way.

If money could stop things from enshitifying, there would be very few shitty things on the planet.

If everybody on the planet subscribed to YouTube premium they would still become enshittified.

Even with 8 billion monthly subscriptions at $10 a month or more, Google would raise the prices and provide less service.

They would do whatever they have to do whatever they can do to extract the most amount of money they possibly can out of the product.

This is not just because Google is a shit company, this is because greed knows no bounds. The only way for a company to stop being enshitified is for the company from the top down to be radically opposed to enshittification.

Only a good King can stop enshittification.

There are no good Kings in Google.
